How it works

  1. Choose a generatorPick a card above, or type a child's name in the quick start at the top, and the sheet opens ready to print. Each generator starts from an example.
  2. Type and adjustEnter your words, names, numbers or clues and change the settings. The preview redraws the actual sheet as you go.
  3. Print or savePress Print with Actual size selected, or Download PDF. Copy link brings back the same sheet any time.

Make the sheet you actually need

Ready-made worksheets almost fit. The spelling words are last year's, the maze is too hard for your group, the name on the tracing sheet belongs to someone else's child. Making your own in a word processor fixes that, but it takes an evening of fiddling with fonts and tables. These generators sit in between: each one knows how a particular kind of sheet should be built, and you supply what goes on it.

A kindergarten teacher pastes a class list of 22 and prints one PDF with a name tracing page for every child. A Year 2 teacher types the week's spelling words once and turns them into a tracing sheet, a word search and a bingo game. An occupational therapist seeing a seven-year-old who reverses b and d makes a page of words built around those two letters, with arrows on every stroke. A homeschool parent prints twenty subtraction problems and the answer key before breakfast.

What you can make here

The handwriting worksheet generator and its relatives cover letter, number, word and sentence tracing, names, cursive and adult practice. Print letters are drawn from our own stroke data, with a green dot where the pencil goes down, arrows for direction and numbered strokes, and there are school-style fonts modeled on the styles taught in the US, the UK, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Ireland and South Africa. The style chips at the top of this page, from US slanted to NSW and Ireland, open each one directly, and the guide to school handwriting styles by country helps you pick one.

The math worksheets with answer keys run from first addition facts to long division, fractions, telling time, money, place value, number lines, hundreds charts and times-table grids, and US sheets note the Common Core standard they practice where one applies. The puzzle makers build word searches, mazes, bingo cards and crosswords from your own words or numbers. And the printable paper section gives handwriting paper in seven sizes, lined, graph and dot grid paper that print true to size.

Matching the sheet to the age

For preschool, think big and short: name tracing at 1 in or larger, numbers 1 to 10 with arrows, very easy mazes and handwriting paper with wide rows. In kindergarten and first grade, letter and word tracing at 3/4 in, addition and subtraction within 10 or 20, number lines counting by ones and sight word bingo are the staples.

From second and third grade, sheets get denser: sentence tracing at 5/8 in or 1/2 in, a first look at cursive, two-digit addition with regrouping, times tables, medium word searches with diagonals and crosswords with simple clues. Fourth and fifth graders can take on long division with remainders, fraction work with unlike denominators, hard word searches that run backwards, and expert mazes.

One word list, many sheets

Any generator with a list box can save what you type. Click Save this list, give it a name such as Week 5 spelling or Class 2B names, and it appears under My saved lists in every other generator with a list box on this device. The Use this list in menu sends the current list straight to word search, bingo, word tracing, the crossword maker or name tracing in one click, and after you print or download, a Next, with the same list strip offers the same jumps.

That turns one typed list into a week of varied practice: trace the words on Monday, find them in a word search on Tuesday, play bingo on Thursday. For a class list, the names travel the same way, so a page per child for name tracing and a getting-to-know-you bingo game come from the same paste.

Checked, repeatable and private

Puzzles are generated by code that is tested: every word in a word search is placed or named, every maze has exactly one route between any two points, and every bingo card in a set is different. When something cannot work, such as a word too long for the grid or a list too short for the number of cards, the generator says so, and a print sheet names any character its stroke alphabet cannot draw; lines a maker cannot read, such as a crossword line with no separator, are left out, so check the preview. Math sheets always come with an answer key, also available as a separate PDF.

Each worksheet carries its page address in the footer, and every sheet except plain paper adds a number such as Sheet #20417. Math and puzzle sheets are dealt at random, and there the same number with the same settings gives the same sheet: type it into the Sheet number field under More options, or use Copy link to bring back last week's page exactly. Handwriting and paper sheets have nothing random in them, so the same settings always print the same page. Share settings copies the layout with the page's example list in place of your names or words, and greets the colleague who opens it. Everything runs in your browser: names and lists are not uploaded, your last settings stay in local storage on this device, and there is no sign-up. The one outside service is a page counter, Google Analytics 4, which never receives the names or words you type. A copied link holds the settings after the # sign, which servers do not receive but anyone with the link can read.

Printing tips

Paper size is chosen from your browser's language and time zone, so visitors in the US and Canada see US Letter and most others see A4; you can switch it on any sheet. Worksheets use 0.5 in margins; lined, graph and dot paper run closer to the edge. In the print window, choose Actual size or 100% and turn off headers and footers, because Fit to page shrinks tracing rows, graph squares and clock faces away from their true size. Download PDF builds the file in the browser for copiers, email or a shared drive, and pages you have opened keep working offline.

Questions

How can I make my own worksheets for free?

Pick the kind of sheet you want from the cards on this page, type your own words, names or numbers, and adjust the settings until the preview looks right. Then press Print or Download PDF. Every generator is free to use as often as you like, with no account, no trial period and no watermark on the printed page.

Do I need to sign up or install anything?

No. The generators run in an ordinary web browser on a computer, tablet or phone, and nothing has to be installed. Pages you have opened are kept by the browser, so they keep working offline. There is no login, so there is no password to remember and no email address to give.

Are the worksheets available on A4 paper?

Yes. Every generator offers US Letter and A4. The site picks one automatically from your browser's language and time zone, and you can change it in the Paper menu on any sheet. Layouts are rebuilt for the chosen size rather than scaled, so tracing rows and grid squares keep their true measurements. Outside the US and Canada, letter sizes are labeled in millimeters, with a hint of the school years each one suits.

Which grades are these worksheets for?

Most sheets are aimed at preschool through fifth grade, with settings that stretch in both directions: tracing letters up to 2 in tall for the youngest writers, long division and fractions for older students, and handwriting practice, hard word searches and expert mazes that suit adults. Each generator page explains which settings fit which age.

What happens to the names and words I type?

They stay on your device. The sheet is drawn in your browser and nothing you type is sent to a server. Saved lists and your last settings are kept in local storage on this device only, and the Forget on this device button next to the saved lists removes them, which is worth a click on a shared classroom or library computer. If you share a sheet with Copy link, its settings travel inside the link, so send it only to people who should see the contents.

Why do my printed sheets come out smaller than expected?

The printer is probably scaling the page. In the print window, choose Actual size or 100% instead of Fit to page or Shrink to fit, and check that the paper size matches the sheet, Letter or A4. Turn off headers and footers in the same window, so the browser does not print its own date and address over the edges of the page.
